Bigger. Brighter. 2012 Hospice Strawberry Festival

The annual Hospice Strawberry Festival in Wellington will be bigger and brighter this year says Mary Potter Hospice.

“Along with our delicious strawberries and ice cream we have put together a really great line-up of live music,” says Graham Ford, Hospice spokesperson (see following event list).

“Our Midland Park Festival will, for example, feature the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra. The Family Fun Day at MacLean Park, Paraparaumu, has a programme of some excellent family entertainment plus more stalls.”

“We would really like Wellingtonians to get out and support the Hospice Strawberry Festival. Summer is almost here and we are enjoying daylight saving, and we want people to have some fun and enjoy the lovely new season’s strawberries and support a very worthwhile cause,” says Mr Ford. “Part of hospice philosophy is about enjoying life and making the most of it.”

Mary Potter Hospice, he says, provides a high standard of specialist care for terminally ill Wellingtonians and funds raised from the Hospice Strawberry Festival helps towards keeping those services free.

“We are very grateful for the support of our sponsors such as Pak ‘n Save supermarkets, The Dominion Post, Mediaworks, The Radio Network, AFL Logistics, Apex Print, House of Travel and others who have got behind Mary Potter Hospice and made the Festival happen.”

People who cannot get along to Midland Park can buy a real strawberry sundae can buy a “virtual” one and make an online donation at www.strawberryfestival.org.nz .

The first “Hospice Strawberry Festival” was run in Wellington in 2005 by Mary Potter Hospice and it has since grown to become a national festival in 2009. Pak ‘Save supermarkets have been a key supporter of the Strawberry Festival 2011 providing strawberries and ice cream.

Saturday 17 November.9am - 2.30pm.
Selling strawberries and ice cream outside Pak ‘n Save supermarket Porirua.

Saturday 24 November. MacLean Park Paraparaumu 9am to 4pm.

Family Fun Day: ice cream and strawberry stalls, face painting, yummy food, bouncy castle, bands, pony rides, cup cake decorating, plant and cake sales, massage, dancing, and more.

10 am Raumati Beach School Rock Band “Evolution” and Glee Club
11.am Rainbow Country – Wellington’s top reggae band
12. noon Clockwork - funky dub rock band
1.00pm Henpicked - original country jazz swing and pop
3 pm Two Flat Whites - acoustic soft rock quartet.
