SILO PARK announces summer 2012/13 schedule including
international musicians and award winning cinema
Silo Park is proud to announce the launch of its 2012/13 season, offering free entertainment at Waterfront Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter throughout summer.
From Friday 23 November, Silo Park will present a range of special cinematic, music and community events every Friday and Saturday. The SILO MARKETS kick off each weekend at 5:00pm on Friday’s, where visitors can grab dinner from an eclectic array of street food style stalls, browse a variety of pop-up clothing stores, and toast the end of the week at the SILO PARK BAR. SILO MARKETS also features weekly entertainment from local and international DJ’s.
Friday’s are also home to Auckland’s only regular open-air cinema, SILO CINEMA – a fantastic outdoor film experience, where movies of all genres are projected onto the iconic Silo 7 at 9pm. Furthermore, a short film curated by Show Me Shorts will play before each main feature. Silo Park offers the ultimate weekend outing for all ages, inviting families and friends to grab a bite, pull up a beanbag and enjoy the show. SILO CINEMA guests can also ‘Eat Popcorn for Charity’, with all of the profits from popcorn sales throughout the season going to a variety of charities, as chosen by the public.
The SILO MARKETS take place from 12pm–6pm every Saturday, offering a veritable mix of food stalls, vintage clothing, contemporary artists, street performers and more. Once a month, Silo Park plays host to some of New Zealand’s best musical talent at SILO SESSIONS – a series of free concerts, unique showcases and performances, curated by special guests, community groups and collectives creating.
The 2012 Schedule
Silo Park organisers are excited to reveal its SILO CINEMA line-up for 2012, kicking off with 80’s comedy classic, ‘The Blues Brothers’ on Friday 23 November. And throughout December there won’t be an empty beanbag in the house with Israeli film ‘The Band’s Visit’ (Nov 30), heart-warming documentary ‘Spellbound’ (Dec 7), cult classic ‘Grease’ (Dec 14) and everyone’s favourite Christmas movie ‘Home Alone’ (Dec 22) being broadcasted onto Silo 7 for everyone to enjoy.
On December 1st, Silo Park will host its first SILO SESSIONS of the season, with Israeli producer Kalbata taking the stage as part of ‘Weird Together presents 'World Together' – a mini festival of sights & sounds from all four corners of the globe. This installment of SILO SESSIONS will be curated by Nick D and Dick Johnson, who will also be joined by a full live band and Caribeanz Southern Stars Steel Pan Orchestra.
There are also a number of other Silo Park highlights that are yet to be announced, including music and festival collaborations, and charity initiatives.
