Is there a story from your community that you would like to tell through film but don’t know where to start?
Script to Screen and Ngā Aho Whakaari present the 2012 South Auckland Short Film Workshop. This two-day event will give you everything you need to know to
make a short film, guiding you through each stage – from the initial concept, directing, the nuts and bolts of
production and finally to pitch your idea for funding.
Come and hear from five experienced industry professionals who have all worked on successful short films including Desray Armstrong, producer of Meathead (2011) which won Best Short in the Generation section at Berlinale and screened in competition at Cannes,
writer/director Michael Bennett whose short film Michelle’s Third Novel was selected to screen in front of Pulp Fiction at the 1994 New York Film Fesitval, and writer/director Katie Wolfe whose latest short film Redemption(2010) screened at the prestigious Berlin and Sundance Film Festivals.

Time: 10am – 4pm (both days)
Cost: The workshop is free. Please bring a $10 koha to cover lunch, tea and coffee for both days.

Day One – Saturday 24th November

Producers Desray Armstrong (Meathead, Ellen is Leaving) and Mina Mathieson (Warbrick) give an overview of what it takes to get a short film off the ground, driving a project from conception to completion
and managing the team
1pm – 2pm: Lunch
2pm – 4pm: Writing
Writer/director Michael Bennett (Matariki, Kerosene Creek, Cow, Michelle’s Third Novel) talks about the key points of storytelling and forming a structure that will grab the audience
Day Two – Sunday 25th November
10am – 12pm: Directing - brought to you in association with the Screen Director’s Guild of New Zealand
Writer/director Katie Wolfe (Redemption, This is Her) takes us through the most important aspects of directing and making your story visually alive
12pm – 1pm: Lunch
1pm – 3pm: Production
Here we discuss the nuts and bolts of how to shoot your film. From equipment to call sheets, learn what you need to know
to make the shoot run smoothly. Speaker TBA.
3pm – 4pm: Pitching Session
Participants pitch their short film ideas to the class and mentors for some practice and feedback. One participant will
be chosen to receive ongoing mentoring through Script to Screen.
