150th Canterbury A Show starts today
The 150th Canterbury A Show starts today (Wednesday 14 November) and runs until Friday 16 November.
Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says that the 150th Canterbury A Show, when country comes to town for three days, is a popular day out for families with over 100,000 visitors expected this year.
“Celebrating the 150th Canterbury A Show is a wonderful milestone, but the event is even more special this year with the attendance of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall on Friday 16 November at Canterbury Agricultural Park.
“Expect three full days of livestock, entertainment and attractions, indoor and outdoor exhibits, feature marquees and pavilions. There is also a 150th anniversary programme planned, with livestock and equestrian sections putting on something a little bit special for this milestone year. There will be a special 150th steam display, a replica 1900’s W A McLaren & Co trade site and displays from the Ferrymead Heritage Park,” he says.
Christchurch City Council’s Marketing Manager Richard Stokes says family favourites such as the city farmyard, the sheep maternity ward and carnival rides will guarantee a fun day out for all the family. Gates open at 8am and there is plenty of free parking on site,” he says.
