Signing of agreement between Palmerston North and Jambi
The Palmerston North City Council hosted a delegation from the Province of Jambi in Indonesia this morning at 11.00am.
The visit saw the Mayor of Palmerston North, Jono Naylor and the Vice Governor of Jambi, Fachrori Umar, sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
The Memorandum of Understanding has been drawn up to acknowledge a shared interest in education. Jambi seeks international experiences for its students and teacher training; Palmerston North, as an education centre of excellence, is able to provide these opportunities.
The delegation from Jambi includes: The Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, His Excellency Mr Amris Hassan; Didy Wuryanto, Head of the Jambi Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Sepdinal, Head of the Jambi Ministry of Livestock.
Representatives from Palmerston North include: Bruce Osborne International Director, UCOL; David Bovey, Rector and Lance Retemeyer, International Manager, Palmerston North Boys High School; Jane Horton, Acting Principal and Mary Cherian, Dean of International Students, Awatapu College; Professor James Chapman, Head of the Massey College of Education and Elaine Reilly, CEO, Vision Manawatū.
