Plan Ahead For Monday’s Royal Public Walk Downtown

Aucklanders hoping to catch a glimpse of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall on a public walk downtown on Monday are advised to take public transport into the city and plan their vantage point.

Mayor Len Brown and Mayoress Shan Inglis will accompany the Prince and Duchess on the 15-minute walk on Monday, which will take place approximately 1.20pm.

The walk will start at the intersection of Queen St and Customs Street, heading to the Cloud on Queens Wharf.

The best places to see the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall during the walk will be the bus stop areas on the edge of Queen Elizabeth II Square, and along Queens Wharf on the route to the Cloud.

Auckland Transport advises people to use public transport to get to downtown. Normal bus and train services will operate, but some bus services will be diverted to alternative stops. Details can be found at http://www.at.co.nz/.

Motorists should be aware there will be some road closures between 11am and 2pm on Monday. Tyler and Galway Streets between Commerce Street and Lower Queen Street (by Britomart) will be closed.

Auckland Transport will have ambassadors in the area to help people.

“We want this to be an enjoyable event for everyone,” says Len Brown. “Whether you are coming in to take part in this Diamond Jubilee event, or you have business or errands in town, just plan ahead for your journey on Monday. If you are heading to Lower Queen St or Queens Wharf, make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to avoid disappointment.”
