Community focus for Port Nelson’s new website.
If you want to know what the weather is doing in the Haven, or want to track a consignment of timber, Port Nelson’s new website can help you out.
Customer Relations and Business Development Manager, Rob Hawkes, says the new website, launched last week, has a far greater community focus.
“We know there are people who still miss being able to come down to the wharf in their cars to watch ships being loaded,” he said. “That just can’t be done with today’s safety and security regulations, but we have around 50 cameras at the port, and people can now view our operations on the new website.”
Mr Hawkes says the website will be a real asset to boaties, who will be able to see weather conditions live on camera, as well as getting updates on weather information from the site.
“Port Nelson plays a vital role in this region for our exporters and for the wider community and there is a lot more information online now about us, from our history through to our current sponsorships,” he said. “And we have updated the way we offer customers the cargo tracking information and other data that they expect from a modern port.”
The website is part of a renewed focus from the port on the community, which also includes a Visitor Centre and monthly port tours for schools and community groups.
