At Approximately 011:40 this morning a Life Flight Trust team was dispatched by Police to Powell Hut in the Tararua ranges 75 kilometres north of Wellington to a male believed to be in his forties who had been suffering from a medical event.
The man had spent the night in the hut after an attempt by the Life Flight team on Saturday could not be completed due to extremely high winds in the area.
The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance Intensive care paramedic onboard managed to land on a small area of exposed ridge-line close to the hut.
The man was quickly assessed on scene and then flown to Wellington Hospitals Emergency Department to receive further treatment.
