Thrills and Frights of Halloween Celebration are back this year!
Popular fright night for whole family will be bigger and better
Mainstreet’s Halloween celebration is back this year and set to be bigger and better than last year. “We were completely overwhelmed last year,” admits Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge, “it was the first time we had tried a Halloween event and we were unsure of what to expect, now we know how popular it is we will be better prepared.” After the huge response to the inaugural event Mainstreet has had to source 320kg of lollies to ensure they can cope with demand.
They Have also arranged for an extra bouncy castle and have created a separate event for the 13+ age group. The Whanganui Regional Museum is also joining in with a spooky offering to complement their new exhibition ‘Glass of Fashion’ a collection of award winning costumes from the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand. In collaboration with Amdram you will have the chance to meet Shakespeare’s Baddies at the Museum between 6 and 8pm.
Twenty retailers have joined in this year and will be Trick or Treat venues on the night. Look out for their Trick or Treat posters in the window. Trick or Treating will begin at 3pm for under 5’s only and 3.30pm for all ages. At 5pm you will be able to burn off some of that excitement and sugar with a free Spooky Zumba workout session in Majestic Square. Plus there will be roaming zombies, face painting and a chance to check out all the amazing costumes that people have made for the event.
For the 13 plus age group Mainstreet will be screening an interactive horror movie at the Davis Lecture Theatre from 8pm. Come dressed up, have your photo taken at the photo booth and then head into the theatre for a comedic horror experience, audience participation is essential but space in the theatre is limited so arrive slightly early if you want to ensure you get a seat.
“It is great to have the support of retailers and the Museum for this event,” Elise Goodge continues, “we were also extremely lucky to come across Whanganui Confectionary and Snax, a brand new lolly manufacturer here in Whanganui who are supplying the lollies at a heavily reduced price. It is set to be a great night.”
