Sky Tower goes Pink in
Support of Breast Cancer Action Month
SKYCITY’s Sky Tower has turned pink this
October leading the charge in support of one of New
Zealand’s most significant charity campaigns. October is
Breast Cancer Action Month and this year, for the twelfth
year, landmarks around the world are going pink to raise
awareness of the disease and funds for the cause in the
Global Illumination campaign.
The Sky Tower was the first New Zealand monument to join in the campaign, accompanied in 2010 by many others including Canterbury Museum, Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre, the Nelson Cathedral and Invercargill’s Water Tower. New Zealand’s antipodean time zone ensures it is the first to light up in support of the worthy cause.
On Monday 1 October the launch event for Breast Cancer Action Month was held at SKYCITY Auckland which was attended by Breast Cancer Ambassadors Kerre Woodham, Jude Dobson, Liz Mitchell and Anne Thorp and New Zealand celebrities such as Sonia Gray, Dick Frizzell and Jay Saussey. The event featured moving speeches by New Zealand TV personality Helena McAlpine and the premiere of New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation’s new awareness video featuring Chris Knox’s iconic Kiwi ballad 'Not Given Lightly'.
The New Zealand Breast Cancer
Foundation is just one of the worthy causes supported by
SKYCITY. Other charities doing vital work across New Zealand
include the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand and
the Leukemia & Blood Foundation.
