Jaquie Brownof TV show ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’will lead aflashmob of “…anyone who has a baby or has been a baby…”tomorrow morningin Britomart station to ride the trains. The group will be askingAucklanders to “Get on Board” and support the extension ofpaid parental leaveto 26 weeks.
The flash mobkicksoff the Auckland‘26 for Babies’ campaign and is hoping to generate somesupport forit right inthe heart of the city.Co-ordinated using Facebook,the flashmob startsat10amand participants will begeared up in sunny yellow t-shirts with babies, balloons,and flyers galore.
The Bill to extend paid parental leave iscurrently at Select Committee and the groupwantstoremindpeoplethat this issue affects everyone –“…paid parental leave is about investing in our kids and ultimately New Zealand’s future.”The benefits of extending suchleave would flow right through the community as well as enablingparentsto spend precious timebonding with,and caring for,theirnewborn babies.
The Auckland ‘26 for Babies’ campaignwill be working to encourage membersof the publicto make a submissionon the benefitsof theBillto ensure that all political parties “Get on board”and work together to make ita reality.
