Community Workers And Volunteers Honoured

“I was delighted to lead the celebration of our community workers and volunteers at last night’s Hutt City Community Awards,” says Mayor Ray Wallace.

“Those honoured with awards are a fantastic example of the difference that can be made in a community with a can-do attitude, hardwork and a good old fashioned commitment to helping others.”

Volunteers from across Hutt City were recognised in three different award categories at a ceremony held at Silverstream Retreat:

2012 Civic Award recipients

• David (Rawiri) Evans - community service and youth activities

• Donald Millward - community service and recreation

• Margaret Cull - community service, cultural affairs, education services and social welfare

• Scott Murray – youth services

• Laura Ziki – youth services

• Shannan King – youth services

“Congratulations to all our Civic Award winners who are an inspiration for their commitment to the communities of Hutt City,” says Mayor Ray Wallace.

2012 Hutt City Wellington Airport Regional Community Award recipients

• Hutt Safe City – supreme award winner and health and wellbeing category winner

• Arohanui Strings – arts and culture category winner

• Rimutaka Forest Park Charitable Trust – heritage and environment category winner

• Wellington Region Karate Academy Inc – education and child/youth development category winner

• Wellington Speedway Society – sport and leisure category winner

• Lower Hutt Victim support – commended in the health and wellbeing category

• Rise Up! Pomare – commended in the education and child/youth development category

"Congratulations to supreme award recipient Hutt Safe City and our other worthy category winners. Volunteers in our community, and the work they do, are vital for the Wellington region. We want to make sure that they are recognised and celebrated for their dedication and hard work," says Chief Executive of Wellington Airport Steve Sanderson.

2012 Safe City Award recipients

• The Empire – alcohol harm minimisation category winner

• Chris Martin – individual category winner

• Hutt City CCTV operators – organisation category winner

• Helen Winter – area commanders’ category winner

“Working in the community to keep our city safe takes commitment, energy and a real willingness to want to make a difference. Those recognised with Safe Hutt City Awards have shown all these qualities and it’s my pleasure to recognise the work they’ve done to make our city safer,” says Area Commander Mike Hill.
