Banks Peninsula Zone Committee Meeting
The Canterbury Water Banks Peninsula Zone Committee will meet for its monthly meeting on Tuesday 18 September at Rapaki Marae, starting at 4pm.
The committee will begin the meeting with an update from the Regional Committee before receiving a presentation from Environment Canterbury regarding the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement.
Environment Canterbury has indicated it will commence reviewing the Coastal Plan in late 2013. The role of the Zone Committee will be through the submission process under the Resource Management Act.
At the meeting the committee will also hear from Environment Canterbury’s youth engagement team on its programmes to work with young people to develop awareness and understanding of behaviours that benefit the long-term ecological and socio-economic well-being of the community.
The main focus for the Banks Peninsula Zone Committee in the last few months has been on developing its draft Zone Implementation Programme (ZIP) for water management.
The draft ZIP will include several chapters, each focussing on a different priority area for water management. These include; water supply, biodiversity, Lake Wairewa, wastewater, run-off / contamination + waterways, coastal, and education / communication.
During October the committee is hosting stakeholder meetings and four community meetings for local people, groups and organisations to provide feedback on the recommendations made in the draft ZIP.
The meeting details are:
Monday, 29 October: 6 to 8pm - Lyttelton Top Club, 23 Dublin Street, Lyttelton
Wednesday, 30 October: 6 to 8pm - Akaroa Sports Complex
Thursday, 31 October: 6 to 8pm - Little River Rugby Clubroom
Tuesday, 1 November: 5.30 to 7.30pm - Diamond Harbour Community Hall
Once finalised, the ZIP will be presented to councils to be endorsed as the basis for the design and realignment of work programmes, for drafting regional plan provisions.
The Banks Peninsula Zone Committee typically meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Zone Committee meetings are open to the public.
