Record Big Wednesday Prize Won In Tauranga
A massive $27 million Big Wednesday First Division prize has been won by a lucky player from Tauranga this evening, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Wayne Pickup.
“If this prize is won by one individual it will be the third biggest prize in NZ Lotteries’ history, putting our lucky winner into the record books,” says Mr Pickup.
“The previous biggest prizes were the massive $36.8 million Big Wednesday prize won by a family syndicate from Masterton in 2009, and $28.7 million Lotto Powerball prize that went to a Papakura pig hunter in October 2010.”
The winning ticket was sold at AJ's Lotto & Tobacconist in Tauranga.
Big Wednesday First Division was last won in March 2012, when an Auckland family won $11.4 million.
The prize package has been jackpotting ever since, and the prize is made up of cash and all of the luxury prizes – $675,000 cash towards a bach, $50,000 towards luxury travel, a $50,000 Platinum VISA card, an Audi Q7, a Rayglass 2200 Boat and a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.
Big Wednesday sales have increased along with the growing jackpot, which will help to benefit the community. NZ Lotteries profits are transferred to the Lottery Grants Board, which distributed more than $180 million to thousands of community groups last year.
