Spring snowfall turns southern skifields into white gold

Queenstown, 12 September 2012 – Heavy snowfalls followed by a stunning blue sky day has seen thousands of locals and visitors take to the slopes around Queenstown today to enjoy superb spring skiing conditions.

Since Friday, Coronet Peak ski area has been blanketed with 56cm of new snow, The Remarkables has received 80cm, and Cardrona Alpine Resort has topped up with an extra 25cm in the last 48 hours.

Much to the delight of locals and visitors, snow fell consistently in downtown Queenstown yesterday, transforming the resort back into a winter wonderland.

Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd said the buzz around town was electric.

“It’s always exciting when it snows downtown and even better when it’s followed by a bluebird day. I’m already hearing reports from the ski areas that today is the best day of the season.

“Now’s a great time to get to Queenstown for a short break or holiday and make the most of the superb snow conditions, warm weather and range of world-class experiences on offer.”
