PRESS RELEASE
Lower Hutt Mother Needed Support
At Family Life International NZ, we were greatly saddened to hear of the baby found dead wrapped in a towel in a Lower Hutt backyard yesterday morning.
“Tragically the baby’s mother seemingly had no one to turn to in her great hour of need” Colleen Bayer, Director of Family Life International NZ said. “We do not know the circumstances of the mother, whether she is young or old, or how the child was conceived. We do not know what led her to feel so alone, as to need to leave her baby.”
Family Life International NZ runs a nation-wide Option Line for women and girls who are facing an unexpected pregnancy. We offer free confidential counselling and practical support to those who call. Our Option Line 0800 367 5433 is available New Zealand wide and we have two physical Centres that women and girls can visit in Auckland and Porirua.
“No pregnant woman or girl should feel so alone, so frightened, so unsure of what to do that she feels she has no other option than to leave her baby in that way.”
Colleen finished by saying “My heart goes out to the mother of the baby. Whoever she is, she is welcome to call our Option Line. We care.”
