School holiday fun and games with Kids Fest 2012
Finding exciting things to do over the school holidays is easy. Hutt City Council’s Kids Fest is back with two weeks of fun activities and games from 29 September to 14 October.
Duncan Chisholm, council’s recreation and events manager wants to remind parents there’s lots for kids to do over the holidays. “We have a great range of activities, from getting hands on with African tribal masks to being a fire-fighter to enjoying kid’s theatre productions.”
Creative kids can get their hands into a variety of art classes including stitching felt pieces, making clay sculptures or ceramics, learning to draw or getting hair and make-up done up like a pop star, zombie or witch.
Kids who are into sports and games can try squash or karate sessions, train to be a junior lifeguard, take part in a gym camp, have-a-go at mountain biking or get muddy and wet at the bog challenge.
There’s also plenty for the budding dancers and those who love a good show with several theatre and dance shows especially for children. For inquisitive kids there are opportunities to learn about fire safety and discovering the wild, weird and wonderful at Hutt City Libraries.
Kids Fest kicks off on Saturday 29 September with the Taita Family Hoopla at Walter Nash Stadium from 11am to 3pm. Come along for a fun-filled day with giant inflatables, storytelling, music, magicians, face-painting and a whole lot more. Entry is gold coin with proceeds going to the new Taita Community, Recreation and Sports Centre development.
The Kids Fest booklet has been distributed to Lower Hutt primary schools or pick up a copy from any Hutt City pool, library, museum and i-SITE or visit www.huttcity.govt.nz/kidsfest
