Buses replace trains this weekend
Auckland’s rail network will be closed this weekend to allow major works associated with the on-going station improvements and electrification of the rail network.
Replacement rail bus services will be provided during the closure and special timetables will be in place for them. For full details go to www.maxx.co.nz. Details are also available at stations.
Saturday 1 September – full network closure
Sunday 2 September – full network closure
People travelling to the Warriors game at Mt Smart and the ITM Cup game at Eden Park on Sunday will be able to board rail replacement buses during the network closure.
NZ Warriors vs Canberra Raiders, Mt Smart, 4pm
ITM Cup, Auckland vs Manawatu, Eden Park, 2.35pm
Travel is free on rail replacement buses to the ITM Cup game at Eden Park with a pre-purchased game ticket, three hours before kickoff. Please remember to retain your game ticket for the travel home.
Sunday 2 September – full network closure
Please be aware that there may be minor delays to services next week to allow for the weekend works to settle in.
Works taking place in the weekend include general track maintenance, graffiti removal, vegetation control and drilling for relocating of utility cables. Some work will involve diggers and rock-breaking at times during the day and night.
Along the western line, cantilevers and portals will be installed in preparation for electric trains. There will also be bridge works at the Sandringham Road rail bridge.
There will be foundation works at Newmarket and track maintenance works at Parnell between the tunnel and bridge. At the same time graffiti near the Parnell tunnel and Vector Arena is to be removed.
At Panmure station as part of the AMETI project, new beams for the busway are being lifted in. Taking place at Penrose is maintenance and welding work and at Otahuhu earthing and bonding and foundation work to ready platforms for electric trains are also taking place.
More preparatory works for electrification is to be carried out between Puhinui and Wiri and signaling work in Papatoetoe. There will be platform works at Takanini station, and track alignment at Homai.
As part of the station improvements at Papakura, there will be track formation works near the Clevedon Road Bridge and piling for the station’s lighting and shelters.
