Family tree family found
The owners of the detailed family tree found in a Waiheke attic and handed in to Auckland Libraries have been found.
Auckland Libraries’ family history librarian Seonaid Lewis says the response to the Auckland Council’s plea for information on the document has been overwhelming.
“I have received hundreds of phone calls and emails from people who are Jennings descendents or interested in genealogy,” says Ms Lewis.
“Amongst them are direct descendents of David Jennings and, in particular, the owner of this family tree document Margot Keiller.
“Unfortunately I can’t return all of the phone calls but very much appreciate people’s interest in this remarkable document.
“We look forward to talking further with Mrs Keiller and finding out more about the Jennings family tree,” she says.
Mrs Keiller has said that the document could remain in the Auckland Libraries’ special collections and Ms Lewis is hopeful of getting a copy of page two of the family tree.
“We don’t need any more information about the Jennings family but we are still keen to find out where the document was found,” says Ms Lewis.
“We would like the Waiheke resident who handed the family tree in to get in touch with us again,” she says.
