Drowning at Maungonui Bluff
At about 4:07pm Saturday Dargaville Police were called to an area known as the Maungonui Bluff, Ripiro Beach.
Police were advised that two youths had entered the water at the bluff and had been taken out to sea in a rip.  One of the youths was able to be brought back to shore by onlookers however one of the youths was taken further out.
Coastguard and Air search units were deployed. The youth was subsequently located at about 5:34pm and was deceased.
The deceased is a 14 year old youth from the Auckland area.
No further details will be released at this time.
The matter has been referred to the Coroner.
