Mission says Thank You Auckland
The Auckland City Mission’s Winter Appeal has ended on a high note after meeting its target.
Every winter the Mission holds a major fundraising appeal to raise money for its services, which come under tremendous pressure as the colder weather sets in.
Three weeks ago the Mission sent out an urgent call for support, asking for more donations as the appeal was falling well behind target.
Auckland City Missioner Diane Robertson says the response has been tremendous.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Aucklanders. We rely heavily on the Winter Appeal to raise enough funds to keep our services running – and three weeks ago we were on very shaky ground. If we hadn’t had such a fantastic response to our urgent appeal, we would be looking at having to cut back services.
“We have now met our target, and we have all our fantastic supporters to thank for that.”
Diane Robertson says that the money raised will go towards the Mission’s work with disadvantaged Auckland families, including elderly people, homeless people and children living in poverty.
She says they cannot afford to get complacent even though the Winter Appeal has met target.
“We work hard every single day to raise enough funds to ensure our services can keep running, 365 days a year. The money raised during this Appeal will be used up very quickly. We are always in need of financial support and any time is a good time to donate to the Mission.”
Donations can be made online at www.aucklandcitymission.org.nz, or by calling 0900 4 AUCKLANDERS (0900 42825) to make an automatic $25 donation.
The Auckland City Mission’s services include its Crisis Care service for those needing emergency assistance and longer-term support, Homelessness Services, an inner-city medical centre, Drug and Alcohol Addiction services and Food Distribution services.
