Car thieves caught
A 15yr old, 16 yr old and 19
year males had a busy night in Kelson (Lower Hutt) overnight
breaking in to around 30 cars.
At about 4.40am this morning police were called after the owner of a car was awoken by the sound of his car alarm going off. A police patrol found the three in a stolen Subaru car in a nearby street.
In the car was a large amount of stolen property which included iPods, GPS car navigation units, car stereo speakers, cell phone and an assorted number of chargers.
The males admitted that they had walked up most streets in Kelson trying car doors. It is thought that they may have gained entry to about 30 cars that were either parked out on the street or up driveways.
It is thought that some of these cars were not locked which has made getting in to the car very easy for this trio. This is a timely reminder for car owners to lock their cars and don't leave valuables in their cars.
Police are asking for anyone in Kelson who believes that their car was broken in to, to contact Lower Hutt Police to make a report. This can either be done on the phone or in person at any Police Station.
The 15 and 16 year old will be referred to Police Youth Aid, while the 19 year old will be appearing in the District Court later on this week. All males reside in the Hutt Valley.
