Got what it takes at the table?
Table tennis. The game of champions. Giving your all for glory on the green…and complimentary gourmet pizza!
Tyler St Garage Table Tennis on Monday nights has all the passion of pro wrestling, without the personal-space invasion. The perfect non-contact sport.
Perhaps fuelled by free pizza and cold beer at special table-tennis prices, players at the Britomart bar and restaurant have been taking to the table with the gusto of a global confrontation.
“There’s not a lot of diplomacy in our garage,” says Tyler St manager Jessie Love. “The matches are short and sweet and you don’t need to be a top athlete to take part.
“This game is being played in people’s garages around the country so we thought why not do the same here – at our own garage in the city.”
Table tennis is the quintessential English sport – civilised, sophisticated and reasonably sweat-free. It began in England at the end of the 19th Century as an after-dinner amusement for tennis players during the winter season and is now one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
The Tyler Street Garage tournament takes place every Monday night at 6pm There is a $50 bar voucher to be won at the lucky prize draw. Beers are $6 for the night and players get free pizza.
No need to sign up, just head down to Tyler Street Garage on Monday evening. Games start at 6pm.
