Speed limit consultation gets underway
The community is being asked for its feedback on a number of proposed changes to the speed limits on some local roads.
The amended draft speed limit bylaw has resulted from a review of a number of local speed limits and Queenstown Lakes District Council transport manager Denis Mander says one of the suggested changes was spearheaded by residents.
“The suggested alteration of the current 70 km/h limit to 50 km/h at Kelvin Heights on the stretch of Peninsula Road from west of Willow Place to west of Loop Road was driven by a residents’ petition,” Mr Mander said.
“Concerns were raised around safety with the current limit and we’ve taken that on board while conducting the review.”
Other areas where speed limits changes are mooted include Cardrona, Hawea, Wanaka and the Wakatipu Basin.
Roads affected are:
• Esplanade Reserve, Hawea
• Camphill Road, Hawea Flat
• Aubrey Road, Wanaka
• Outlet Road, Wanaka
• Old Racecourse Road, Albert Town
• Ewing Place, Albert Town
• Cardrona Valley Road, Wanaka
• Orchard Road, Wanaka
• Studholme Road (South), Wanaka
• Ballantyne Road, Wanaka
• Faulks Road, Wanaka
• Mount Barker Road, Wanaka
• Boundary Road, Wanaka
• Morris Road, Wanaka
• Maxwell Road, Wanaka
• Cardrona Valley Road, Cardrona
• Centennial Avenue, Arrowtown (correction to the legal description of current limit only)
• Arrowtown - Lake Hayes Road, Wakatipu Basin
• Slopehill Road (West), Wakatipu Basin
• Old School Road, Lower Shotover
• Spence Road, Lower Shotover
• Peninsula Road, Kelvin Heights
Full details of the proposed new speed limits and which portions of road are affected can be viewed in the draft Speed Limit Bylaw which is available online at www.qldc.govt.nz or at Council offices and public libraries in Queenstown and Wanaka.
Submissions on the draft speed limit bylaw close at 5pm on Wednesday 26 September and a hearing will be held in October.
