Auckland Skyline Icon the Sky Tower Celebrates 15 Years
This August Auckland’s most iconic building, the Sky Tower which has dominated the Auckland Skyline for the past 15 years is celebrating its 15th birthday. Originally thought of as an eye-sore of Auckland, the Sky Tower is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Auckland with over 300,000 visitors visiting the Sky Tower each year.
Rising from the ground in 1994, the Sky Tower took two years and eight months to complete. Over 1000 workers from different companies worked on the construction. This was the first time that construction had taken place at this height and upon completion the Sky Tower stood a remarkable 328 metres above the ground and was at the time the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest man made structure.
Over the weekend of 17-19 August Aucklanders can come and celebrate with the Sky Tower where they will find an array of activities and specials on offer to enhance the birthday weekend.
