Learn how to save thousands using cloth nappies
Those of us with a baby in the house will know how much it costs to keep a child in disposable nappies, not to mention
the cost to the environment.
On August 18th Kate Meads, officially known as The Nappy Lady, will be holding a workshop in the Sound and Vision zone
at the City Library from 10.00am until 12.00pm.
Kate will share her knowledge of the modern cloth nappy, explain how the different styles of nappy work and help you to
choose the best nappy for your baby and budget.
Kate travels the country talking with parents and working with councils promoting the benefits of using cloth nappies
and encouraging families to reduce their household waste.
‘Today’s cloth nappies are not what you would expect. Most of them are similar in shape and performance to modern
disposable nappies, and some of the styles will contain ‘everything’ even better than a disposable.’ Kate says.
There are lots of reasons to use cloth nappies over disposables. If every parent in New Zealand used just one cloth
nappy on their baby per-day, we could prevent 1 million nappies from going to landfill per-week. It’s also possible to
save around $4000 per child by using cloth nappies.
The Palmerston North City Council welcomes all parents and expectant parents to attend the workshop, babies are most
welcome too.
The best news is that each participant will get to take home a pack of cloth nappies free (worth approx. $60).
There is a small charge of $20 per couple or parent attending on their own.
