Ka Nui! Enough Extraction Conference This Month
Coromandel Watchdog has teamed up with other groups around the country to host the Ka Nui! Enough! Conference in Rotorua
“This will be a place to discuss the real impacts of mining on our economies, communities, and environment. We will also
talk about how we can all work together to protect our special places and people throughout Aotearoa,” said Coromandel
Watchdog Coordinator Renee Annan.
This conference coincides with the New Zealand mineral industry conference sponsered by corporations like Newmont Gold,
Oceana Gold, Bathurst Resources and Solid Energy.
Potential gold mining is one of the biggest threats to Coromandel communities. There is over 80000HA worth of land
covered by exploration and prospecting permits on the peninsula including in conservation and Schedule 4 land. Newmont
is also continuing to expand in the residential area of Waihi, with residents living with ongoing impacts from the
