MEDIA RELEASE
On Saturday the 11th August during the evening, a Controlled Purchase Operation (CPO) was completed in the Mid
Canterbury area, targeting On License Premises.
Twelve premises in total were visited, with two sales being made, this result is not acceptable.
Senior Sergeant RUSSELL, Ashburton Police said while the results were encouraging, it shows that some Premises have good
procedures and policies in place, along with reliable staff ensuring that these are followed. While other's fail to
understand that failing to comply with the Sale of Liquor Act, not only cause's harm to minors but also the community as
a whole.
With this operation, the volunteers enters the bar area and attempts to purchase alcohol. The volunteers are always
under eighteen years of age.
Each premise would receive a letter advising them of the good result, while those that failed will receive a visit,
followed by prosecution.
The Operation is run in conjunction with the Public Health (ACADS) and Police.
