Road Closure For High Friction Resurfacing
Palmerston North City Council would like to notify residents that the Cuba, Taonui and George Street intersection will be closed while a new high friction surface is laid.
The work is to take place on Monday 13 or Tuesday 14 August 2012, weather permitting.
During the road closure detours will be in place around Cuba, George and Taonui Streets.
Pedestrian access to local businesses and residences in this area will be available at all times during the closure.
Programmes team leader Rob Campbell said the new surface is made from an epoxy resin coated with silica and will be laid over the existing surface.
“It is commonly used in cycle lanes or bus lanes as its durability and colours make the lanes safer,” he said.
“The new surface will also highlight the area as a shared space for vehicles and pedestrians.”
Once the surface has been laid it takes 24 hours to cure before traffic will be allowed to use it. If weather delays the work it will be postponed until Monday 20 or Tuesday 21 August 2012.
PNCC thanks residents for their patience and regrets any inconvenience caused during this time.
