SUBJECT:Crusaders rugby ball up for auction
A rugby ball, signed by the Crusaders, is up for grabs in the hope it will help raise funds for mental health services for young Cantabrians.
Canterbury District Health Board maintenance contractors, Aotea Electric Canterbury, have kindly donated the signed ball to the Youth Specialty Service (YSS), one of CDHB’s Child, Adolescent and Family mental health services.
Robbie Venrooy, Aotea Electric Canterbury Servicing Manager, says it’s great to see the ball will be used for a worthy cause.
“We thought this would be a nice gesture to hand over the signed rugby ball to the CDHB as it’s been a very busy 18 months for the organisation and it’s nice to see it will be used for such a good cause.”
The ball was presented to the YSS yesterday and has been put up for auction on Trade Me with $1 reserve and bidders have until 9pm, next Thursday (August 16, 2012) to get hold of this iconic 2012 Crusaders memorabilia.
Trish Lumb, CAF Family Advisor, says the service is hoping they can raise funds for a television and DVD player for the waiting room to play informative DVDs about services and self help strategies.
“It’s unfortunate the Crusaders are out of the finals this season but hopefully that doesn’t put anyone off bidding on this awesome rugby ball, which will ultimately benefit the young people and their families in our services,” Trish says.
“It’s great to get some support for this area of the health sector. These young people could be representing Canterbury in the future.”
YSS is a specialist outpatient service for 13 to 18 year olds (or older if still at school) and their families with moderate to severe mental illness and their families.
Consultation services are provided for primary care, education, justice and welfare services, and other community agencies who work with youth. The service can also access the Youth Day Programme, Youth Inpatient Unit and a respite facility.
The Trade Me auction can be found at (link) and listing number 502487493.
