Honda TreeFund Planting at Pakowhai
Pakowhai Country Park will receive 700 new native trees on Sunday 12 August thanks to Honda car buyers in Hawke’s Bay.
Hawke’s Bay residents who purchase a new Honda vehicle help contribute to the TreeFund. This year Honda has donated
$4120 to fund a planting project at the park.
“We’ve worked in partnership with Hawke’s Bay Regional Council through our TreeFund programme since 2004,” says Russell
Greer, owner Russell Greer Honda – Hastings and Napier.
“TreeFund is a great opportunity for our customers to get involved in greening their local community and it helps
encourage planting native trees. For every new car sold, 13 native trees are planted in the region.”
Armed with spades, gloves and their gumboots, Russell Greer Honda staff and customers will plant a mix of New Zealand
native trees and shrubs in the park.
“The Honda TreeFund has helped develop new native bush areas and stabilise land at the region’s country parks, which is
contributing to biodiversity, revegetation and stabilisation of steep land areas,” says HBRC’s Operations Environmental
Manager Stephen Cave.
In previous years, the Honda Tree Fund has helped plant areas at Tutira Country Park. Nationally, Honda New Zealand has
funded the planting of almost 500,000 new native trees in just eight years. The TreeFund total currently stands at 496,
981 and the 700 new trees at Pakowhai Country Park will be a healthy addition.
