Work to upgrade Hagley Oval's wicket block and outfield begins
Work on constructing a new cricket wicket block and refurbished outfield on the Hagley Oval will start on Monday (6 August).
General Manager Community Services Michael Aitken says construction work involves the development of a new wicket block and an upgrade of the outfield, including the repair and renewal of irrigation and drainage.
"We have let the contract and work will start on Monday and continue into the spring. You can expect to see trucks, tractors and diggers working on the site to construct the wicket block and to shift soil around the site to improve the ground slopes for drainage.
"Fencing will begin to go up around the site on Monday (6 August) for safety reasons; however, park users will still be able to access the buildings and the edge of the Oval," he says.
This work falls within the Council's Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) objectives for Hagley Oval and fits within the Council's mandate to manage and enhance its public outdoor recreation assets.
