Solid Response to Tararua District Community Awards
Locals have got behind their volunteers with 36 entries received for the TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards.
Entries for the TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards closed on Tuesday 31 July. The TrustPower Tararua District
Community Awards, which recognise and reward volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to the local
community, are run in partnership with the Tararua District Council.
TrustPower Community Relations Representative says there is a diverse range of groups entered this year and she is glad
that so many generous and hardworking community groups will be celebrated through this year’s TrustPower Community
Awards.
“The Community Awards is all about recognising the hard work of these groups who often work behind the scenes. They
bring the community together and they work tirelessly to give so much for the benefit of those who live in Tararua
District.
It’s wonderful that through the TrustPower Community Awards we will celebrate and honour these volunteers. Big thanks
also to the people who entered these groups into the Awards,” says Mrs Partridge.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure,
and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250. The Supreme
Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National
Community Awards.
The 2012 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Far North District in March 2013.
“The National event will bring representatives from 24 Supreme Winner voluntary groups discovered through the 2012
regional TrustPower Community Awards together for a weekend of networking and inspiring knowledge sharing. With them
will be mayors and councillors from the groups’ regions who will gather in the Far North for to enjoy the unique scenery
and iconic townships that the Far North District is known for,” says Mrs Partridge.
The entries for the TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging. The
TrustPower Tararua District Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Thursday 13 September, to
which all entered organisations and their nominators will be invited.
