CCT Appoints New Director
Experienced South Island tourism operator Dave Hawkey has been appointed a director of Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism (CCT). He will also take over from Paul Bingham as board chairman in November.
CCT chair Paul Bingham welcomed Mr. Hawkey’s appointment saying the region’s tourism organisation would benefit from his experience, skills and broad understanding of South Island tourism.
Dave Hawkey is a tourism manager with Christchurch International Airport (CIAL) and has also been seconded to Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) as their tourism sector programme manager.
For 10 years, before joining CIAL, Mr. Hawkey was chief executive of major South Island tourism company Real Journeys, and led the company to win several national tourism awards. He has previously served as chief executive of Lincoln Hospitality Ltd and as Director of Marketing – The Americas for the New Zealand Tourism Board. Prior to this he was the inaugural General Manager of the International Antarctic Centre. He has also been chair of several tourism entities including Destination Fiordland and the Southern Lakes marketing alliance.
“I congratulate Dave on his upcoming role and know that he will bring great experience and enthusiasm to help us drive the regional organisation forward in this critical period of change and opportunity,” Mr. Bingham says.
