Parking fees and time limit changes for Whangarei
Changes to parking fees and parking time restrictions in central Whangarei will be phased in between Wednesday 25 July and Monday 30 July.
The changes will include increasing parking time limits in the Central City to three hours, introducing a weekday daily charge of $2 at the Town Basin’s three commuter car parks and removing time restrictions at all pay and display car parks.
“Letting people park for a standard three hours in and removing all time restrictions for the pay and display car parks we will remove some of the confusion customers currently experience in determining how long they can park,” said Council’s Senior Reading Engineer Greg Monteith.
“It will also provide shoppers and visitors with additional time to stay in the CBD without having to move to another car park.”
Drivers will have the option of paying by coin or credit card and being able to purchase a weekly ticket to avoid the daily walk to the ticket machine. Other payment options will be provided in September allowing drivers to pay for parking via their mobile phone. Customers can register their interest at mpark.co.nz for this mobile phone payment option.
“By extending the time restriction and increasing some
of the parking charges we hope to manage our central city
parking more efficiently and ensure there is always a park
available for our customers. We will continue to review the
parking within the city centre to ensure we meet this
challenge,” said Mr
Monteith.
