star to open Parkour Park
Palmerston North City Council is to install Parkour equipment at its new Youth Park at Skoglund Park making it the first council in New Zealand to install Parkour equipment.
The new park and equipment will be opened by Mayor Jono Naylor and Ali Kadhim who is one of Australia's most notable Parkour and Free-running practitioners and instructor.
Parkour is a growing
sport internationally and is becoming an increasing addition
to the Australian physical education curriculum.
Imported from Finland the equipment is specifically
designed to be used by youth or adults of any ability and
can be non-competitive or as challenging as the participant
wants it to be.
A four-bay swing set and a steel climbing wall have been installed to compliment the Parkour equipment.

The opening will be
attended by Rangitane and City Councillors. Ali along with
other Parkour practitioners will give a demonstration on how
the equipment can be used.
A football skills session and a sausage sizzle will also feature at the opening.

Ali Kadhim has appeared
in television shows, music videos and is a self-taught
filmmaker. He was named one of Sydney’s 100 Creative
Catalysts for 2009 and was awarded a Community Medallion for
his efforts. He won Best Film Award at the 2010 Shortcuts
Film Festival for his documentary ‘Mohammad’.
