Support Our Athletes Live

Wellingtonians can cheer on our Kiwi athletes at the 2012 London Olympics without leaving the city.

Four city ‘Live Sites’ will give people the opportunity to watch sports events live on large screens, send messages to the New Zealand team, or participate in fun family sports activities, all free of charge.

The Wellington Olympic Live Sites will operate from 26 July to 13 August 2012.

The ASB Sport Centre in Kilbirnie is the city’s Live Site hub. Olympic footage will play continuously and visitors can have a go at various sports on the Centre’s courts. Olympic Playtime for pre-schoolers, Get Set Go sessions for 4-5 year olds and ASB Athletics sessions for school-age children will all be available free of charge on selected days during the fortnight.

A Wii Olympic challenge will also run, with players competing in selected sports to win a Wii.

At the New Zealand Olympic Museum at Queens Wharf visitors are encouraged to send a message of support to the New Zealand team, watch the Games on one of five large screens and soak in the Olympic atmosphere. The Museum is open 8am – 4pm during the period of the Games.

The Four Kings Sports Bar in Dixon Street is the mecca for football fans. Capital Football will host games by the New Zealand Men’s and Women’s teams on 27 July and 1 August, at 6.45am, with the bar also open for informal screenings of other New Zealand football games.

Chicago Sports Café is the focus for athletics supporters, with Athletics Wellington hosting during the Men’s and Women’s Marathons on 5 August and 12 August at 9.55pm.
