How do you think we should elect our Councillors?

The Council would like to remind residents that it is currently reviewing how we elect our Councillors and that submissions are due to close on Wednesday 18 July 2012.

Items for consideration include:

· Whether Councillors should be elected by wards (the present system) or on a city-wide basis, or on a mix of the two systems;

· The number of elected members, including the boundaries and names of wards and number of members representing each ward if the Council decides to continue with a ward system;

· Whether the Council should establish community board(s) or ward/community committees.

Any person or organisation can obtain a copy of the discussion document from the Council’s Customer Service Centre, any branch of the library, by visiting pncc.govt.nz or by phoning the Council on 356 8199.

Submissions can be made by any interested persons or organisations and the submitters should clearly state whether they wish to appear before a committee to speak on their submission.

The committee meeting to hear submissions is to be held on Wednesday 1 August 2012 at 7pm in the Council Chambers.
