Life Flight Winches Injured Hunter out of Lake Rotorangi

Life Flight Trust Winches Injured Hunter out of Bush at Lake Rotorangi Near Hawera

09/06/2012 2200 hours

At 10:00pm this Evening the Life Flight Trust responded to Lake Rotorangi in land from Hawera.

The Rescue Co-Ordination Centre had picked up a Emergency Locator Beacon activation from an injured hunter. The hunter had fallen approximately 1m off a small bank and had injured his knee and was unable to walk.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The Rescue Co-Ordination Centre had a GPS position for the injured hunter from his Emergency Locator Beacon and also with the Aid of the Night Vision Goggles the Helicopter Crew were able to spot the hunter very quickly.

Due to the location of the hunter the Helicopter was unable to land and the Paramedic was winched down into the clearing where the hunter was.  After a quick assessment by the Paramedic both were winched back into the helicopter.

The patient was flown to Wanganui Hospital Emergency department where he is being assessed and treated for his leg injuries.
