Life Flight Trust Winches Injured Hunter from Aorangi Forest

Life Flight Trust Winches an Injured Hunter from Aorangi Forest Park Martinborough

At 09:45am this Morning the Life Flight Trust responded to Aorangi Forest Park south of Martinborough to a 37yr old male from Featherston who had been on a hunting trip with a friend when he tripped on a steep section of the track he was on and injured his ankle.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter

The injured hunters friend was able to walk to a nearby house and contact the Ambulance Communications Centre. Due to the patients location the Helicopter was able to land next to the house and uplift the friend who then was able to direct the Helicopter crew to the patients location.

The Helicopter Crew was able to land on top of a ridge a short distance from where the patient was located. The patient was assessed by the paramedic and it was decided that due to his injuries and location on the track it would be safer to winch the patient and paramedic into the helicopter rather than trying to carry the patient to the helicopter.

The patient was then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being treated for his injuries.

The Life Flight Trust is a charity providing air rescue and air ambulance services. It operates the Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a national air ambulance service. It relies on support from the public and sponsorship from partners such as Westpac to provide these services. Further information can be obtained from www.lifeflight.org.nz
