CBD Red Zone Cordon Reduction
Media Release – Friday 18 May 2012
CBD Red Zone Cordon Reduction
Another section of Christchurch CBD Red
Zone cordon has just been
reduced, enabling further
access to the central city.
The change is noted in detail
on the map on the www.cera.govt.nz
website but involves
moving in west from Latimer Square and
opening part of
Gloucester Street.
This means people will now be able to
see into New Regent Street as
it is repaired, although
the street itself will remain within the cordon.
The
change allows The Press to move into its new building and
return
to the central city for the first time since the
February 22 quake.
CERA chief executive Roger Sutton says
that is great news for the
readers of The Press.
“I
appreciate it’s been an difficult time for The Press staff
with the
experience they all went through in escaping the
damaged building
on February 22, losing a colleague, then
having to carry on doing
their work.”
“It will be
good to have such an important part of the community
back
in the centre of the city. Press staff will have a bird’s
eye view
of the rebuild and that will no doubt be an
advantage for readers.”
The physical reduction of the
cordon began at
midday.
