Youth Week a chance to celebrate our future

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

18 MAY 2012

Youth Week a chance to celebrate our future

Youth Week kicks off on Saturday and in Hutt City we’re celebrating with a great line-up of events and activities for young people.

Mayor Ray Wallace describes the week, which runs until Sunday 27 May, as an opportunity to celebrate the contribution young people make to the vibrancy of our city.

“Young people are an important part of our communities, they are our future, and since becoming mayor I’ve met many young people in our city who give me confidence our future is in good hands.

“I’m pleased council has teamed up with youth organisations from across the city to present an exciting calendar of events to show we appreciate the young people in Hutt City.

“The Inertia Twenty12 music event is set to be a fantastic party and it’s great to see Hutt City pools offering high school and tertiary students $2 entry during the week when they show their ID.

“There’s also plenty happening at our libraries and community houses.”

Other Youth Week highlights include a skate competition at Melling Skate Park, a youth symposium at Vibe, a BBQ at Walter Nash Park, a week long calendar of events at Secret Level and an Eastbourne talent quest.

A full list of Youth Week events in Hutt City is available on council’s website at www.huttcity.govt.nz/youthweek
