When: 12 May, 8.40am to 5pm

Marking the beginning of the planting season, Restoration Day 2012 is bringing together representatives from over 60 restoration groups in the Wellington region to network and take part in workshops that help them get the best results for their planting projects.

At this year's event there will practical hands-on workshops on planting and monitoring at the Greendale Reserve as well as a chance to walk along Southward's native remnant bushwalk, learning about sourcing seeds and plants along the way. There will also be talks at Southwards on propagation, and animal and plant pest control.

Co-hosted by the Department of Conservation and Greater Wellington Regional Council, with support from territorial authorities, Restoration Day offers groups the chance to learn new skills, network, and celebrate the results of their labour.

Keynote speaker is John Sawyer, Principal Natural Heritage Specialist, Auckland Council. John's speech - entitled Beyond the Grief - opportunities for rebuilding ecological resillience - will address some ideas for achieving critically important conservation outcomes in the Wellington region.
