TC3 Drilling Underway In Eastern Suburbs

EQC has commenced drilling on properties in the residential Green Zone Technical Category 3, with investigative work on the first properties taking place in North New Brighton this week.

The drilling work in the eastern suburbs is expected to take six to nine months to complete, EQC Customer Services Manager Bruce Emson says.

“EQC is managing the drilling work on all properties, both under and over the Commission’s $100,000 +GST cap of its cover for built residential property.

“At this stage, we are expecting the drilling in the eastern suburbs to be finished in the next six to nine months. Further announcements around timeframes for the remaining western and southern suburbs will be made when we have a clearer picture of the resources available.”

Testing will not necessarily need to take place on every affected property in order to get adequate information for foundation design, and EQC has been working closely with both the DBH and local councils to ensure the onsite testing will meet building consent requirements.

“Detailed assessments of soil conditions in TC3 areas are needed in order for geotechnical and structural engineers to design appropriate foundation solutions,” Bruce Emson says.

“It will also allow EQC to give certainty to customers whose claim is close to the $100,000 +GST event cap, but who cannot be passed to their insurer or be assigned to the Canterbury Home Repair Programme, until the cost of foundation repairs or replacement is known.

“Once we have the information we need and the geotechnical information is analysed, the next step for customers is for an engineer to undertake foundation design for their property.

“Customers will be contacted either by Fletcher EQR or their private insurers to discuss repair options for their homes.”
