New Fish &
Game Officer for Central Otago
Otago Fish and Game Council’s new Fish and Game Officer in Central Otago is Clare Morris of Alexandra. She replaces Rasmus Gabrielsson who has recently taken on a fisheries scientist position at Cawthron Institute in Nelson. Clare who is based in the Cromwell office is responsible for the Manuherikia and Wakatipu catchments and the Alexandra/ Roxburgh area.
Clare started work for Fish and Game in early April and is rapidly coming to grips with her new position. Her previous experience with Ministry of Fisheries as a fisheries surveillance officer means she is well used to compliance activities, community liaison and resource monitoring.
Clare is married with two teenage children and includes mountain biking, trail running and martial arts amongst her recreational interests. She is also a volunteer ambulance officer .
“One thing I
would like to focus on is introducing more young people and
women to angling and hunting. But my first priority is to
establish contact with rod and gun clubs, licence agents and
regional and district councils, Department of Conservation
and Ngai Tahu as well as landholders and individual anglers
and
hunters.”
