Serious Crash

A 38 year old man is in Middlemore Hospital with serious leg injuries after his motorcycle was struck head-on by a car travelling in the wrong direction on the southern motorway early this morning. The driver of the car carried on after the crash.

Police received several calls from alarmed motorists before and after the crash which occurred just after 1.00am. Callers reported the vehicle travelling north at speed in the southbound lanes.

Police are speaking to a man whose car struck a tree on the Princess Street southbound on-ramp a short time later.

The harbour bridge-based serious crash unit is handling the investigation.
