Exercise classes for Seniors

Exercise classes for Seniors

Regular exercise strengthens your body and can help prevent aches and pains as you grow older.

Hutt City residents over 65 are invited to come along and try one of Leisure Active’s specifically designed seniors exercise classes.

Two 10-week classes are being held at the Moera Community Hall from late April to June and are run by qualified and experienced instructors. A Pilates class focuses on strength and toning exercises, while a Zumba class helps build cardiovascular health and working the muscles of the hips, legs and arms.

Council recreation and events manager, Duncan Chisholm says “a regular exercise programme can help protect older people from common injuries and the exercises are really simple and effective – anybody can do them”.

“Besides all the health benefits, the classes are also a bit of fun,” he said.

Pilates Gold classes run for one hour from 10am – 11am Thursdays, 26 April to 28 June.

Zumba Gold classes run for 45 minutes from 9:30am – 10:15am Fridays, 27 April to 29 June.

Both classes cost $50 for 10 weeks (pre-booked) or $7 per class (casual).

Bookings are recommended, however both classes offer drop-in options. To reserve your spot contact Leisure Active on 560 0307 or email leisureactive@huttcity.govt.nz with your contact details.
