Construction on New Playgrounds to Begin
Construction on three new children’s playgrounds within the northern part of the Waikato is about to begin, adding to the recreational facilities available in the district.
The three playgrounds, two in Tuakau and one in Mercer, will together cost about $76,000, and will be funded by money that had been set aside in the former Franklin District Council’s Long Term Plan. Construction will begin within the next month, and once started should take a few weeks.
“We're pleased to be building these new playgrounds for the kids of our district,” said Waikato District Council Water & Facilities general manager Richard Bax. “They will be great additions to our list of community facilities and we’re confident they will get plenty of use.”
While the wet summer may have dampened the holiday plans of many, it’s produced a silver lining with the district’s sports ground being in excellent shape heading in to the winter sports season.
“While most people were disappointed by the summer we’ve had, it does mean the council’s sports grounds have a better playing surface, and will be harder wearing through the winter,” said Mr Bax.
