Chemical Spill Contained At Lyttelton Port Of Christchurch

This morning a container on a vessel berthed at Lyttelton Port of Christchurch was identified as leaking. The manifests stated that it was a Class 8 Hazardous substance.

The Fire Brigade and Harbour Master are co-coordinating the cleanup on the vessel. The container has now been removed under their direction from the vessel and is now located in the MAF washbay area for further cleanup.

We have identified there is no danger to staff or marine and animal life however as a precaution a no-go-zone cordon has been setup around the area.
