Cheep as Chicks – an `Eggstraordinary’ Easter Gift
Kiwis keen to turn the annual Easter overindulgence into something positive, can purchase an ‘eggstraordinary’ gift this
Easter by buying 24 Gift for Life Cheep as Chicks for a family in need. While most Kiwis are set to enjoy a bounty of delicious chocolate eggs this Easter, many children
in the developing world will not. International aid and development agency, TEAR Fund, is offering a practical way to
feel good not guilty and challenging New Zealanders to give a more meaningful gift.
Solo Tanzanian Mother, Mary, says her gift of baby chickens has meant that she has now bred over 72 chickens! “I can
send my children to school and we all have food to eat.”
TEAR Fund marketing manager, Sheena Duffy says, “For $12, children of families in need will receive two dozen baby
chicks that can produce up to 1000 eggs a month. This is a real Easter treat as raising chickens provides a great source
of nutritious food, plus much needed income. In addition, chicken waste makes ideal organic fertiliser. Need we mention
the fact that chickens love to breed and so this income source will be self-sustainable! ”
Ms Duffy says, “We encourage Kiwis to do something a little different this Easter. Give your friends and family a
meaningful gift and give someone on the other side of the planet a lifeline and their best Easter yet.”
TEAR Fund will send all purchasers a special card explaining the gift and how it will benefit the recipient. Tear Fund’s
Gift for Life Easter initiative can be purchased through www.giftforlife.co.nz or by phoning 0800 800 777.
